Poetry: Page & Stage

RAPHAEL COHEN

This assembly program introduces students to multiple literary tools (simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, etc.) and various poetic forms (rhyming poems, free verse poems, protest poems, odes/tribute, etc.) while exemplifying the powerful impact and lasting influence of oral storytelling. Whether reciting his own poems exploring identity, family, and issues of social inequity and social justice, or sharing the works of wordsmiths with whom students may be more familiar, Raphael's performances inspire audiences to write and recite their own life stories.
