STEAM Summer Program

What is energy?

Thirteen Teaching Artists worked with South San Francisco Unified School District classroom teachers and students to integrate the arts into this Summer STEAM Program exploring the theme of energy.

Young Audiences Teaching Artist Edna Cabcabin Moran's work with fourth graders focused on the colorful, creative energy of form and function.

Students explored the basic design tenet that "form follows function" in a series of fun, mixed-media projects using the tools and practices of the studio artist. Weekly integrative art included an upcycled kite lesson, fostering connections to energy and science curriculum while inspiring the "maker mindset." Students were introduced to multicultural quest-stories which served to inform their concept and creation of their very own painterly-rendered board game.
