Body Percussion and Stepping School Assembly

Artist: Antwan Davis
Type: Assembly
Art Form: Music
Grade Level: K-6
Scheduling Request

This high-energy, interactive assembly introduces students to the art of body percussion and the tradition of stepping. Students experience rhythm as a universal language while learning how the body itself becomes an instrument. The program combines performance, history, and active participation, leaving students with both cultural context and a collective rhythm experience.

Assemlies include a check-in on familiarity with stepping/body percussion, performance demonstration of live body percussion performance followed by group reflection and a student volunteer demonstration. Antwan also provides  history and context of body percussion and stepping (short overview of Greek collegiate stepping, body percussion, and their shared roots) and interactive activities. Students learn steps together and students perform a basic body percussion routine “mini show.”
