Carola Zertuche Theater Flamenco SF

Carola Zertuche, a native of Torreón, Mexico, is an acclaimed flamenco dancer and Artistic Director of Theatre Flamenco of
San Francisco. Under her leadership, the company honors the depth of traditional flamenco while embracing contemporary
collaborations, earning recognition locally and internationally. She began her training at Mexico City’s Tablao Mesón de Triana with Manolo Vargas and Pilar Rioja and continued her studies in Spain with masters including Ciro, Belén Maya, Andrés Marín, Israel Galván, and Pedro Azorín. While in Spain, she performed with the renowned company Los Tarantos.
Zertuche has toured throughout Mexico, the United States, and the Middle East with companies such as María Benítez Teatro Flamenco and has performed at prestigious venues including the Joyce Theatre, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, the Lensic Theater, and the Fox Theatre.

Carola has collaborated with distinguished artists and companies including Domingo Ortega Flamenco Company, Andrés Marín Company, and Juan Siddi Flamenco Santa Fe. Her work has been featured in major festivals such as the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival and has earned multiple honors, including four Isadora Duncan Award nominations. She has been recognized by San Francisco Magazine and San Francisco Weekly for her flamenco productions. Ms. Zertuche made her San Francisco Opera debut as choreographer for La Traviata.

Recent works include Sol y Alma, a collaboration with the Glide Ensemble; Transitar por un mundo sin tiempo, presented at Herbst Theatre; and Tríptico, premiered at Dance Mission Theater in 2025. In addition to performing and choreographing, she is dedicated to education and community outreach through the Theatre Flamenco Dance School.
